Backwards is the true story of one big firm trial lawyer's after death face-to-face communication with God/Source about the mysteries of life and death. Backwards shatters the age-old belief that we are mere humans, that fate determines our destinies, and that a task master God demands our obedience and worship. Nanci L. Danison, JD, brings the credibility of a trial lawyer trained to evaluate evidence to her account of the answers to our most pressing spiritual questions: who is God? Who am I? What is the purpose of life? Why am I here? What happens when we die? And how should I live my life here on Earth? She offers a "life plan" from the afterlife that originates in and resonates with our true spiritual nature, and provides step-by-step guidance on how to access and develop our Source-like traits in order to bring peace and happiness to our own lives and our planet.

"Strap on your seatbelt and prepare for a truly cosmic journey. Backwards will transport you beyond all other accounts of life beyond death--and provide profound insights about the purpose of life on Earth. This fascinating book will very likely change your understanding of almost everything, including your own identity." --Bill Guggenheim, co-author of Hello From Heaven!

From the Publisher
"90 Minutes in Heaven" gave us a brief glimpse into heaven from outside it. BACKWARDS takes us deeply through all the levels of exitence in the afterlife--all the way back to rejoining the Source/God. This is not an autobiography. Everything in this book comes from the author's profound, transcendental after death experience.
From the Inside Flap
BACKWARDS challenges us to look beyond our ancient belief systems to a new understanding of life.
BACKWARDS takes us beyond current thinking about who we really are to acknowledge that we are powerful spiritual Beings of Light inhabiting human bodies but not limited to human abilities. Gives us exciting new perspectives on the nature of God/Source, humans, souls, and the universe, as the author seeks to guide mankind away from fearful models of life and death toward a path of exploring one's own inner connection to God/Source. Proposes a simple plan for accessing and utilizing while in human form our spiritual "superpowers" of multiple levels of awareness, the ability to consciously manifest reality, self-healing, and unconditional love. Includes step-by-step guidance on changing one's perspective on life and death. Offers a powerful personal account of the state of awareness we call the afterlife not found anywhere else.
BACKWARDS guides us through a caring and comforting exploration of life beyond death from the perspective of one who has actually lived it. The purpose for our existence that BACKWARDS describes removes all doubt about the outcome of life and how it should be lived.

Great book that needs editing
By WillowTheDog
This is a great book, even a potentially life-changing book, and I'd recommend it to anyone with a couple of caveats, so why am I giving it only three stars?
Simply, it's poorly organized and edited. I don't mean grammatical errors, but Part I is filled with so much repetitiveness that it detracts from the book.
This book should begin with Part III, "What Happens When We Die?" Part III is reasonably well written, easy to read, and would be extremely enlightening to readers new to the subject of life after death. Novices would want to read what happens when we die before learning the afterlife, spiritual being part. It's just a more logical flow.
In contrast, the current Part I needs major editing. It's filled with endless repetitions - so many that on several occasions I assumed I had lost my place and was rereading the same text again. So, I'd back up a few ebook screens and sure enough, I'd find find that it was the same information, just rewritten a bit.
For example, the author repeatedly states that we are all, individually, part of the Source (sort of like God, but not quite). The Source sends us out to experience life in human form and then when we die, we return to the Source. The part of the Source that goes out (the Light Being, which in turn sends out the soul as part of it) is immortal and will eventually live again in another body.
That's pretty much it. There's much more detail, of course, but the author repeats this material seemingly every three or four pages. Enough already! And that's just one example. Light Beings send out energy (the soul) and it merges with a separate, distinct entity, the human body. Again, there is more detail, but this point is repeated endlessly throughout the book. We get it. Even the laziest of readers will get it after three times. I didn't count, but it felt as if these two points were repeated more than a dozen times.
These repetitions make Part I hard to read and much too long. If you don't grab readers' attention in the first two chapters, many readers will not continue reading. This is a major organizational flaw. It could be corrected in the next edition of the book by moving Part III to Part I and making the old Part I at least 50 percent shorter. The new chapter one would have to be modified to provide more of an overview.
There were also some times where the author takes the reader too far off the main topic. For example, there were sections dealing with different energy vibrations. In the 1980s, that would have been okay, but today it makes the book far too New Age-y. Those sections should be rewritten or deleted.
The attempts to integrate the theme "backwards" into the narrative also seemed weak. It was like a literary speed bump every time I read them. If you can't integrate the title extremely well, don't try. Make your connection to the title of the book in the introduction or chapter one and move on.
The old Part II is very good and would make a great final section of the book.
One final constructive criticism. The hardback edition only had 25 lines per page. Most hardbacks this size would have about 35 lines per page. It was almost like reading a draft that was double-spaced for editing, which makes the text hard to read.
For the best experience, I'd suggest that new readers read Part III first followed by Part II. If you can't figure something out, you can use Part I as a reference section to look it up.

I'd highly recommend this book to anyone
By L. Smith
If I could, I'd give this 6 stars out of five.
Since metaphysics, NDEs, OBEs, life-between-lives, and life-after-death are some of my favorite subjects, there wasn't any information in this book which was new to me. However, thanks to Ms. Danison's very commendable and simple writing style and examples I got a great deal from this one book which I failed to get from many other (famous) books combined.
Because ACIM (the most powerful book ever written in my humble opinion) is so difficult to read, I've always called The Disappearance of the Universe: Straight Talk about Illusions, Past Lives, Religion, Sex, Politics, and the Miracles of Forgiveness (aka DU) "training wheels for reading A Course In Miracles". In it's own way, this book is a very short and simplified version of both DU and A Course in Miracles. That in itself makes it worth it's weight in gold.
Before reading this book, I still had the same un-positive tapes about God, Love, prayer, guiding angels, "ask and thou shalt receive", etc., etc. replaying over and over in my head...all the while wishing I knew how to turn them off or change them into something positive. Also, having read Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now" years ago, I found it difficult to stay centered in the Now....also all the while wishing I could do a better job of it. I can't put a finger on what Ms.Danison said to stop my inner tapes or help me live more in the moment, but I feel like a different (and more peace-filled) person since reading this book.
Her talk about the difference between, and blending of, the human animal and the soul somehow transformed my thoughts....as did the reinforcement that we're entirely in charge of what happens to us minute-by-minute (i.e. we're not "sheparded" through life by Light Beings or some roughly pre-determined pre-birth agreement as much as I might have previously believed).
Before reading this book, on an intellectual level I fully understood about seeing/perceiving our 3D reality from a higher perspective for greater understanding of a situation...that all of our actions are neutral (i.e. neither good nor bad)...not feeling guilty about our actions...lack of judgement from any Being but yourself....that when you're praying to God you're praying to your Self (p. 194)...that each of our experiences is merely God's plan for experiencing All That Is...etc., etc. But this 269 page book brought an amazing clarity all to these subjects and more.
Perhaps the greatest benefit I received from this book was finally being able to shrug off that ever present, inner nagging GUILT of, "Being a good little Light Worker that I AM, is what I'd like to do aligned with God's will -- in other words, is/was it "right" or "wrong"...or for the "greatest good of all"?" etc. What I got from this book is, "Go ahead and let your hair down! You can't do ANYTHING bad or wrong -- there's no such thing. In Source's eyes, EVERYTHING is good. The ONLY being who's ever going to judge your choices is YOU. Period. In fact, with all your limited human wisdom and perspective, making the most studied and well-informed choice you can possibly make might still not be the best choice 'for the greatest good of all'." Rightfully, the only restraining condition to this unfettered, no-guilt behavior is, "Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you."
Unlike so many other New Age books, Ms. Danison thankfully doesn't provide any step-by-step stuff or any advice/recommendations to do, or not do anything....but what *I* got from this book made the subjects she discussed more day-to-day and minute-to-minute applicable than any book which does offer advice (such as recommending affirmations or whatnot -- which I always ignore anyway).
I liked that she kept mentioning "attention and intention" as the keys to manifestation. The ONLY thing in the entire book that that went "ruuuuupt" (that record scratching sound) in my mind was when she said:
QUOTE: "Some spiritual gurus proclaim that all you have to do is visualize anything you want and it will come to you without effort. They may actually believe that giving attention and intention to a fantasy picture, perhaps supported by positive verbalizations or affirmations, constitutes manifestation. But it does not. Manifesting is an innate natural ability we have as Beings of Light. It is not a magic act. Nor is it a trick we can pull on the universe. We manifest because we *are Source.* And as such, our manifestations arise from our evolutionary path back to the Source. If that path does not include wealth, we will not manifest it in our human lives. An no amount of trying to manipulate the universe into producing wealth for us will work. We use our innate Light character only to further our evolution. It is not a magic wand to change the circumstances of the human experience we came here to have."(p. 199) END QUOTE
It's true that if your purpose for this incarnation doesn't include wealth, you're not going manifest it...but the purpose of this incarnation is to NOT know if you're destined to be rich (or healthy, or find true love, etc.). My understanding was always that visualization is a manifestation technique -- it's been proven that diseases such as cancer have went into remission via visualizing Pac Man eating it up...and similar techniques. Here she seems to imply that visualization isn't manifesting...it's "manipulation." I meditate but don't use any manifestation techniques so I don't know if any of them work or not...but it was a let down to learn that much-touted visualization techniques don't (or may not) work. Anyone reading this review got informative input about this subject?
At a few points in the book I either got misty-eyed or outright shed tears (of joy and Love). If I don't end up re-reading the entire book, I will at least go back and re-reading Part 1 of the book again.
I'd highly recommend this book to any religious person -- or non-religious person for that matter -- in order to help them see how limiting their beliefs about themselves, God and Love are.

Pretty good but Journey of Souls is better
By detour de force
First off, kudos for even writing the book. The world needs to hear this message way more than it does. Unlike the harsh one star reviewers, I don't doubt the author's story. Most of the criticism on this site is unfounded. This is a wonderful story. The problem is that the writing is stiff. There is no rhythm to the prose. It's thus a labor to read at times. I really wanted to like this book more.
The book is written in three parts. Part one tells us about Source. It's fascinating for the first dozen pages or so. And then you realize that the author really doesn't have much to say about Source. And what little she conveys is repeated over and over and over. Part two is too preachy. Part three is the best part in that it tells of the author's actual experience. Unfortunately, she's pretty light on details and the sense of awe and wonder she no doubt felt just does not come through in the stiff prose.
It's still well worth reading, however, particularly if you are new to the subject matter. If you've been exploring this arena already, there isn't much new here. The Michael Newton series is much better written and contains many more details, still the gold standard in this genre, in my opinion. Nevertheless, I again would like to express my gratitude to the author for sharing her experience with us.
