Not the best

It's not the best book on hospitality that I read. Though the topic of the book is very interesting, the book is kind of dry. In several chapters it gives basic information about hospitality industry. It contains typos. For example, FGI Friday's was hilarious :)

AWESOME but buy it at Lulu instead

This is an awesome, inclusive and often hilarious story of Rain, a transgender girl making her transition (Male to Female). It features a wonderfully complex cast of characters representing just about every orientation and gender identity you can think of as they go about their daily lives and deal with normal, dramatic/hilarious teenager stuff as well as facing the reality of LGBTQ issues. It has its moments of fun without being too silly and its moments of really serious drama without being too dark.

It is set in a high school, so most of the characters are teenagers. I would classify it as YA. Very family friendly, but adults shouldn't miss out either!

An Amazing Story

I bought Rain, Volume 1 and Rain, Volume 2 through Lulu.com, and I've been an avid follower of the story for a long while.

This is the story of Rain Flaherty; a comedy/drama about a teenage transgender girl as she attempts to go through her life - and transition - as a senior in a Catholic high school. This particular volume contains the first six chapters of the story. It's hilarious and serious at the same time. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in a unique-in-story-and-style slice-of-life story.

This comic is great.

It tells the story of a transgirl from the day she starts living as she was ment to with ocasional flashbacks to her past.
At the same time, the story is very LGBT-inclusive, showing the joys and struggles of people who don't "fit" into the generally expected roles that society dictates.
Also, it written very positive, showing that happiness is still possible, even with people fighting against that happiness.

About the Author
Larry J. Siegel was born in the Bronx in 1947. While living on Jerome Avenue and attending City College of New York (CCNY) in the 1960s, he was swept up in the social and political currents of the time. He became intrigued with the influence contemporary culture had on individual behavior: Did people shape society, or did society shape people? He applied his interest in social forces and human behavior to the study of crime and justice. After graduating from CCNY, he attended the newly opened program in criminal justice at the State University of New York at Albany, earning both his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees there. After completing his graduate work, Dr. Siegel began his teaching career at Northeastern University and has also held teaching positions at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire, and in the School of Criminology and Justice Studies at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell (UML). Now a Professor Emeritus, he continues to teach courses on criminology and criminal justice in UML'S online master's degree program. Dr. Siegel has written extensively in the area of crime and justice, including books on juvenile law, delinquency, criminology, corrections, criminal justice, and criminal procedure. He is a court-certified expert on police conduct and has testified in numerous legal cases.

John L. Worrall is Professor of Criminology at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD). A Seattle native, he received a B.A., double majoring in psychology and law and justice, from Central Washington University in 1994. Both his M.A. (criminal justice) and Ph.D. (political science) were received from Washington State University, where he graduated in 1999. From 1999-2006, he was a member of the criminal justice faculty at California State University, San Bernardino. He joined UTD in Fall 2006, was promoted to full professor in 2008, and in 2010 was selected to direct the criminology program, a position he held until 2015. He now directs UTD's executive M.S. program in Justice Administration and Leadership. Dr. Worrall has published articles and book chapters on a variety of topics ranging from legal issues in policing to crime measurement, having recently been ranked one of the most prolific sole and lead authors in the discipline. Courses he regularly teaches (and has authored texts for) include introductory criminal justice, criminal procedure, and crime control policy. Dr. Worrall is active in the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, the American Society of Criminology, and a number of regional associations. He regularly works with local criminal justice agencies on evaluation projects and continues to serve as editor of the journal Police Quarterly.

About the Author

Tim Lewens, Clare College, Cambridge

Tim Lewens is Professor of Philosophy of Science in the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cambridge. He is also a fellow of Clare College and Deputy Director of Cambridge's Centre for Research in Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH). His research interests include the philosophy of biology, biomedical ethics, and general philosophy of science. His publications include Darwin (Routledge, 2007), a philosophical introduction to Darwin and Darwinism, Biological Foundations of Bioethics (OUP, 2015) and The Meaning of Science (forthcoming with Penguin in 2015).

Highly useful reference on English grammar

I have used this book a lot while studying English and I think IT IS WORTH BUYING for everybody who regularly uses English language and wants to speak and write correctly.

Practical English Usage contains hundreds of entries on English grammar, from elementary to advanced topics and some entries on other issues (pronunciation, usage of problematic words, style etc.). The entries are well selected and well indexed, so I found answers for the vast majority of questions I have ever tried to look up.

Keep in mind, however, that the book can be used primarily as a REFERENCE. It is NOT structured for systematic, regular study and it is too dry for that purpose.

If you want to learn English grammar, I recommend that you get this book, together with Basic English Grammar by Eastwood and Mackin (with the exercises). Use Eastwood and Mackin's book for systematic study and complement it with Swan's book whenever you have any specific question. These books together cover ALL you'll ever need on English grammar (except if you need to be a professional in the field - such as a translator, university professor etc.).

an excellent reference book!

I have a copy of Practical English Usage on my desk at school. I have other grammar reference books, such as Quirk and Greenbaum, at home, but this is by far the most useful for a teacher of English as a foreign language. Swan's style is to focus on the problem points of learners, and explain them and in simple, pithy and purposeful, everyday language to the extent that an advanced learner would be able to understand. As a teacher, you can often save yourself a lot of hassle simply by quoting from it. I like Practical English Usage because the examples are real, living English taken from the British National Corpus, or are realistic enough to be acceptable as such. Too many grammar books borrow their English from the past, or from the dialects of ivory-tower academics. This book redresses this imbalance. If you are not British, fear not, as another feature is its thorough coverage of the differences between British and American usage. (Other dialects are not covered.) If you are a teacher of English as a foreign language, or a smart student, you will not be disappointed with this Practical English Usage.

This is the bible for the TEFL educator. This is the most complete guide I've ever seen. Not only because of the amount of information it has, but how it's organized. You can find the answer to what you're looking for very quickly by using the index and alphabetized organization of the book. I learn a lot about the English language from the students' questions. This is the ultimate reference guide, because it not only provides the answers, but provides the explanation for the answer. Must have for the TESOL/TEFL instructor.

This is the Bible

Now the theory is behind you and you are into Physical exams and History taking and diagnostics. This book is a must for you. In 397 Chapters it tells you about almost all human illnesses. Each chapter starts with theory (physiology), History taking, continues with Diagnosis and Treatment, it even tell you how to approach the patient what to look and what to disregard. Almost 2600 pages, takes two to carry, requires own stand in your home like Webster's dictionary but have more information compared to other 2600 page books due to fine print and unfortunately very minimal pictures or diagrams. You might want to get complete with pocket book edition for handiness when you need it. This book will not help in your diagnosis but when you think you had diagnosed than you can refer to this to see to confirm or rethink.

Great reference, even for non-MD's. The book's chapters are a great read for anyone interested in health matters, and also for those who desire a really comprehensive medical tome.

Not one of my favourites

This is a story about the long term friendship of the protagonist with 3 girls she's known since primary school, and also her relationship with her large Irish family.
I didn't enjoy this book so much mostly because I just didn't like the main character I found her to be so judgemental about everyone and such a martyr herself. I found that most of the characters were just one-dimensional; "good", "selfish", "loyal", "immature" etc. I found it hard to believe some of the decisions that were made by some of the characters.

It was an excellent book - a great read.

The book was basically about friendship between three girls - Cassie, Aileen and Laura.
Once I started the book I found it hard to put it down.
The book covered the three girls' friendship over a period of time. Patricia Scanlan is one of my favoutite authors - I have read nearly all of her books and love them all.
